FAQs

Getting the best from your photos

The process of producing an attractive print starts when you press the shutter button.
  • Focus - How sharp is your image? Make sure that the subject you're taking a picture of is crisp in the viewfinder. If in doubt, use a higher ISO setting and a faster shutter speed to freeze the action.

RGB v's CMYK

Designers should note that we require files to be designed from scratch in RGB and not CMYK. We are photographic printers, not offset so need files to be RGB format. Do not convert CMYK files to RGB. Once you converted to CMYK mode, the data loss from the conversion has already occurred and switching back to RGB won't bring back those colors!

What sort of printers do you use?

We have seven Epson Stylus Pro 9800's and 9600's, all Ultrachrome (pigment) edition. This printing technique offers the highest quaity and most fadeproof printing available. We print at 1440dpi to obtain beautifully clear images. We use genuine K4 pigment inks that are lightfast for up to 100 years.

Can you print borderless pints?

Sorry we can't. All our printers leave a very narrow 3mm border and there is no way to override this setting.

What photo formats do you accept?

We accept both JPG (.jpg) and TIFF (.tif) photo formats.

Can I scan my own photographs?

Yes you can scan your own photos. Scanning your photos properly will result in a higher quality image. Below is a set of basic guidelines to follow to help you get the best results.
  1. Scanner Settings - Set your scanner to the default settings.
  2. Scanner Glass - Check your photo & the scanner glass for any smudges, hairs, fingerprints or dust. Please clean the scanner glass according to the cleaning recommendation given in the user’s manual, and wipe your photo with a lint-free cloth. Make sure glass is dry before placing picture or image down.
  3. Resolution - For photos that are a standard print size (4x6 inches) or bigger set the resolution to 300dpi. Smaller photos will require a resolution of 600dpi.
  4. Placement & Preview Scan - Carefully place the photo face down on the glass. If your photo has been bent or has creases and folds, put a weight – such as a book on the photo to flatten it out.
  5. Start the ‘preview’ scan. Your scanner will do a quick pass of the photo. Check to make sure the image is placed upright and not at an angle, also check that no part of the photo is cut off and that it is free of dust & debris.
  6. Final Scan - Scan the photo in colour, even if your photo is Black & White or sepia, and save it as a jpeg or jpg file without any compression.

Do you provide proofs?

Yes we will email you a proof providing you have given us an email address.

Will you make any adjustments to my photos?

We will not make any adjustements to your photos unless you ask us to, this ensures that your photos come out exactly as you wanted. If you wish us to, we can apply basic photo adjustments such as red-eye removal, making dark photos lighter and bright photos darker.

Can I order a larger reprint of a smaller collage?

No - unfortunately, the collages are created for a specific print size. We can make them smaller but not bigger. This is in order to keep the quality as high as possible.
